Biffa Award funding helped the Woodland Trust to create a ‘habitat mosaic’ at Langley Vale Wood, encouraging a huge range of trees, plants, invertebrates, birds and small mammal species to thrive. The area was extended and strengthened by the introduction of a carefully planned conservation grazing regime. Areas of the site that were previously heavily sprayed with fertilisers and pesticides will be grazed sympathetically to allow wildflowers and plants including Red Hemp-Nettle to regenerate. Grazing will also aid movement of seeds and pollen to the wider environment making the grassland habitat more resilient.
