THE COWBRIDGE CHARTER TRUST

The Cowbridge Charter Trust was established in the Vale of Glamorgan in 2004 for the preservation, conservation, development and improvement of features of historic or public interest. In 2008 the Trust’s attention was drawn to restoring and developing the Old Hall Grounds, and in 2012 they applied to Biffa Award for a grant to create a storytelling circle located between the library and nursery.

The project included the purchase and installation of a storytelling chair, and nine three-seater benches to be used as an outdoor classroom and meeting place for local children, parents and story tellers. There is an emphasis on stories about the local natural and historic heritage, drawing on experts from the Trust’s own committee as well as those involved in the local history society.

During the Biffa Awards ceremony in 2013, the Trust won the Small Grants Scheme trophy.
