Social enterprise Skillnet Group Community Interest Company applied for £34,148 funding from Biffa Award to renovate an old labour hall in Sittingbourne, Kent, turning it into a vibrant new cafe offering a friendly environment for a wide range of community activities.

Run as a social firm, the Pulse Cafe employs people from the local community, and is a place where people of all ages who might otherwise be at risk of isolation can feel engaged and connected.

During the Biffa Awards in 2012 the project won the Community Buildings award.
