For the past 9 months a team of residents, working in partnership with Community Voluntary Action-Ledbury and District, have made major alterations to the area of land opposite the Farmers Arms pub, known as Pool Piece. This area had been designated as a community space and children’s play area since the 1990s. It has never been a satisfactory area as the land was on a steep slope and often wet or flooded. It was also shaded by very high hedges and trees.
Thanks to funding from Biffa Award the village has been able to reshape the land and create a stepped auditorium and a levelled flat area for community use.
In addition new play equipment has been installed as well as improvements in access to the site.
Hedges have been cut back and trees removed and/or pruned to give greater light to the site. This has enabled wild flowers and native bulbs to be established thereby improving the range of fauna and flora.
There is an official opening event on Saturday 12th July starting at 3.30.This will take the form of a short opening speech followed by family picnics and entertainment.
