£50,000 funding boost to Scotton Village Hall
03 October 2014

The village hall in Scotton near Knaresborough secured a £50,000 grant from Biffa Award; a multi-million pound fund that helps to build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to community and environmental projects across the UK.

The insulation project, which was awarded funding under Biffa Award’s Community Buildings theme, will include the installation of a new Kingspan roof with roof lights, new double-glazed internal doors and redecoration through the hall.

Built by the local community in 1977, using village labour and expertise this busy village hall is an essential local resource, catering for local schools, the local church, dancing and exercise groups, and a variety of private celebrations.  In more recent years local user groups have complained that the hall is too cold and sessions have had to be cancelled in the summer and the winter months because of the uncomfortable temperatures.  The committee hopes that the completed insulation works will encourage more local groups to make use of the facility throughout the year.

Scotton Village Hall will host a celebration tea on Sunday 12th October 2014 from 2pm-4pm.  The local community is invited along to celebrate the completed re-roofing project.  Local press interested in attending should contact Stephen Barnes on the details below.

Stephen Barnes, Hall Manager, Scotton Village Hall, said:

“Scotton Village Hall has suffered from the effect of not having a thermally insulated roof with cancellation of bookings in winter and overheating in the summer.  The newly insulated roof, made possible thanks to a grant from Biffa Award, will correct this deficiency and make the hall more pleasant for all users.”

Ken Anson, Hall user, Scotton Village Hall, said:

“We have used the hall every week for more than twenty years for our sequence dance group. The new roof will be a great improvement to the hall and we are looking forward to being able to dance all year round.”

Gillian French, Biffa Award Programme Manager, said:

The insulation project at Scotton Village Hall will not only made the space much more welcoming for the local community, it will also improve the energy efficiency of this facility, and we’re pleased to support it.”
