Biffa Award is part of the Landfill Communities Fund, giving grants to projects that seek to improve their local communities. We put new roofs on village halls, create bio-diverse habitats and give children a place to play.

Biffa Award is managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts. As well as operating as an
umbrella group for the 46 local Wildlife Trusts that have been formed across the UK, RSWT
has a dedicated Grants Team that manages a number of different funds, covering broad
environmental themes. The team does this on behalf of organisations, such as Biffa Group
Limited, The National Lottery Community Fund, Peoples Postcode Lottery and Network

Landfill Communities Fund
The Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) is an innovative tax credit scheme enabling Landfill Operators (LOs) to contribute money to organisations enrolled with Entrust as Distributive Environmental Bodies (DEBs). DEBs provide funding to fully constituted, charitable or not for profit organisations with no share capital for a wide range of community and environmental projects in the vicinity of landfill sites.
LOs are able to claim a credit (currently 5.3%) against their landfill tax liability for 90% of the contributions they make.

Our funding themes
We have four themes - Community Buildings, Recreation, Rebuilding Biodiversity and Cultural Facilities. Your project must fit in one of these themes.
Each category has its own unique criteria, so once you have decided which theme your project fits into, you will need to read the criteria for the relevant theme - Community Buildings, Recreation, Rebuilding Biodiversity and Cultural Facilities.

What we fund
We fund a variety of different projects - everything from re-roofing a community hall or installing a new play park to creating wetlands for wildlife or new habitats for pollinators.
We are passionate about building communities and transforming lives, so if your project will benefit your local community and you are based near a landfill site, we would love to help you.
Your organisation must be fully constituted, charitable or not for profit with no share capital.
We do not accept applications from local authorities, councils, hospices, hospitals, day-care centres, rehabilitation units, residential care facilities, allotments, nurseries, food banks, and schools/colleges.
Applications for projects in places of worship must be able to demonstrate wider community use and benefit. We cannot fund repairs to windows, spires, steeples, bell towers or any areas not accessed by the public for regular wider community activities.
